Proton ends speculation on its foreign partner after they signed a MoU with Japan’s Honda Motor for a join venture which reported to include technology transfer, engine, platform and model line up (rebadge) sharing to the extent. This officially ends speculation on their foreign partnership which previously with VW, Nissan or Mitsubishi.
The business plan will be revealed as soon as possible as quoted by DRB Hicom in a statement to Bursa Malaysia. It should be an interesting news in weeks forward as how Honda Motor, whom known very stubborn to do any collaboration with other automaker except in China will do in this Proton – Honda deal.
Proton is currently developing its Global Small Sedan or GSC in house most probably using EMAS concept or Lotus small car is believed to have problem with its engine selection. Campro definitely out of contention as it will no longer meet emission regulation so engine deal with Honda Motor is likely. Honda has 1.2l engine under Eco car project and also diesel turbocharged for better performance.
Comment: For admin, what is obvious weakness for Proton is its design department. I believe everybody should agree many buyers buy car due to attempted to its looks and styling. Korean has done it with Kia and Hyundai. Take Preve rear design for instance, its too much adventurous with no any automaker has similar design. Time to react now Proton!
